“As far as our noblest hardwood forests are concerned, the animals, especially squirrels and jays, are our greatest and almost only benefactors. It is to them that we owe this gift. It is not in vain that the squirrels live in or about every forest tree, or hollow log, and every wall and heap of stones.” ~ Henry David Thoreau
“Let me tell you, if you have never seen an agitated squirrel you have seen very little, nor have you heard much, because the sound of an angry squirrel is not to be forgotten.” ~ Joe R. Lansdale
“Charles Monroe “Sparky” Schulz was an American cartoonist, the creator of the comic strip Peanuts which features his two best-known characters, Charlie Brown and Snoopy.” ~ Wikipedia
“By the wishes of Mr. Schulz’s family, no new strips are – nor ever will be – drawn and published. There are new animated specials in development, but the story lines are based entirely on themes and dialogue from the strip’s history.”
Peanuts is one of my all-time favorite cartoon strips. Charles Schultz was so talented and we’re lucky that he shared his gift with us.
E. H. Shepard, illustrator – Winnie the Pooh – A.A. Milne
As with Winnie the Pooh, illustrated by E.H. Shepard, others are drawing the characters and selling products based on them.
I prefer to honor the original illustrators, even though some of the drawings are good. A couple of days ago I found a whole bunch of Snoopy quotes illustrated by AI (Artificial Intelligence). I don’t know how this is done. I love the quotes, but the the illustrations were just ‘off’ to my eyes, and this is in direction opposition to the wishes of his family. I guess there isn’t anything the family or we can do about it, other than to avoid using these images or supporting these products.
Life is GoodPinterest“We’ll be friends until forever, just you wait and see.” ~ A.A. Milne – Winnie the Pooh – illustrations by E.H. Shepard – Cian McCarthy – @arealmofwonder on X
A. A. Milne is one of my long time favorite authors. I’ve read and re-read his Winnie the Pooh books so many times, and yet it’s never enough. I always want more. I think just as much of E. H. Shepard, the artist who did the illustrations for the series. His style is so distinctive. The drawings that others do are cute, but they will never reach the work of Shepard.
“Cats and humans have been partners for over ten thousand years. And what you realize when you’ve lived with a cat for a long time is that we may think we own them, but that’s not the way it is. They simply allow us the pleasure of their company.” ~ Genki Kawamura
“Let us be honest: most of us rather like our cats to have a streak of wickedness. I should not feel quite easy in the company of any cat that walked around the house with a saintly expression.” ~ Beverley Nichols

“Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.” – Groucho Marx
I’m still trying to learn this. I have always wanted to DO something, wave a magic wand and FIX it, make it go away. I am finally realizing that when I react this way, I’m making it about ME. I’m not trying to, but that’s the result. The quote above is SO important.
People just want to know they are not alone and that someone cares.
Guy Sebastian’s song, “Standing With You” is about this very subject. It hit me right between the eyes when I heard it. I still tear up every time I hear it. He is saying exactly the right thing. He is THERE. He is listening.
