I think this is the prettiest embroidery I have ever seen. The texture and 3-dimensional work are breathtaking.

We have an active group of quilters here in Greenwood, Arkansas. Each year we have an event called, “Airing of the Quilts” where people put their beautiful work on display. Prizes are given, but I think ALL of them are wonderful.
I personally know 3 people who quilt, Linda and Kay from Lunch Bunch, and Kay’s daughter, LaDonna. I also know Alice, who does the machine quilting for everyone. These are such talented ladies and I’m proud to know them.
Kay offered to teach me to quilt, but I have way too many wonderful, expensive things I love to do and really don’t need to add something else. That doesn’t keep me from ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhhing’ and drooling over the beauty created by others.

Incredibly Lifelike Felt Paintings of Pets and Plants by Dani Ives
by Laura Staugaitis on August 22, 2017 – Colossal
“Fiber artist Dani Ives conjures the natural world in her unique take on the traditional craft of needle felting. Ives describes her method as “painting with wool,” in which she applies her love of animals and her background in biology to build intricately layered portraits of a variety of flora and fauna.”
“Dogs, cats, birds, and farm animals come to life alongside toadstools and fruits, and Ives’ ability to capture the moisture and glint of animal eyes and noses adds an impressive degree of realism. While her plant life depictions take more of a traditional botanical angle, most of Ives’s animal subjects take center stage on the embroidery hoop, peering out at the viewer, further adding to the strong sense of unique personality, and it’s no surprise that she is in high demand for pet portrait commissions.”
“Ives sells originals and prints of her work on Etsy, and she continues her love of teaching by traveling from her home in Northwest Arkansas to lead workshops around the country, as well as offering e-courses in needle felting. You can also follow her work on Instagram”
Thanks again to Laura Staugaitis from Colossal for bringing us the work of this fine artist.

Figural Lace Sculptures Attached to Found Wood by Agnes Herczeg
Kate Sierzputowski on August 14, 2017- Colossal
“Hungarian artist Agnes Herczeg creates figural lace works of female forms, capturing figures in moments of contemplation or work. In one piece the subject stands at a loom, appearing to weave herself from the included fibers. In each of her works Herczeg uses all natural materials, incorporating small pieces of wood or other found materials to serve as a sculpture’s bed frame, hair accessory, floating vessel, or small shelf.”
“Herczeg studied textile conservation at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, and over the years has gathered several methods of embroidery and lace-making to use in her work such as needle lace, pillow lace, macramé, and more. You can purchase her lace sculptures directly from her website, both attached to found natural objects and as individual lace works.”
Thanks again to Kate Sierzputowski from Colossal for this article.

My friend, Kay, is a master quilter. She usually has one she’s working on, or is planning. She’s very creative and a super-active lady, canning or gardening when not quilting. I’ve always admired people who quilt. Kay taught my friend, Linda, to quilt so that she could make heirlooms for her great grandbabies. A good friend, Alice, machine quilts their creations. A very talented trio.

Hand-Sewn Hairstyles That Cascade From Embroidered Hoops by Sheena Liam
by Kate Sierzputowski on May 24, 2017, Colossal
“Fashion model and embroidery artist Sheena Liam hand sews images of women whose hair seems to gracefully dangle from each of her 2D surfaces, Liam using black thread as a substitute for her subjects’ long locks. The works are all completed and displayed on embroidery hoops, with hair styles extending from the women in french braids, messy buns, and long ponytails. In one particular design, tiny pieces of thread are seen attached to the wall below the hoop, creating the illusion that the embroidered woman above is messily trimming her bangs.”
“Liam creates relatable, solitary moments within each hand sewn hoop. You can see more of her elegant designs, as well as snapshots from her travels, on her Instagram. (via Teen Vogue)”
