I wished I looked HALF as cute in my sweat band as this little girl does with her hair band.

I got a good amount done outside yesterday, spending two hours outside weeding. I’ll try to finish it up today, and may add some weed whacking. We have a good chance for rain tomorrow, so I’d like to get things under control today.

I’ve started a new wood-burning piece, but didn’t get to work on it yesterday, due to all the yard work. Maybe I can get up there today.

Both Monster Cat (aka Jet) and Amber are having a super-active morning for some reason. I got up first and Amber barked the minute I started to come downstairs. She barked from time to time as I fixed her food, then let her out, then back in. I jumped a foot each time she suddenly barked, as this is not her usual behavior inside. (She does bark when we let her out, kind of announcing to the world at large, “HERE. I. AM!”) She has since calmed down, but not before waking my husband up.

Monster Cat has been dashing around. This is extremely noticeable to me as I attached a loud bell to her collar which makes a lot of noise. My husband can’t hear it, but I sure can, and it helps me locate her when I need to put her in the bathroom and to bed at night. She is acting like she has found a secret source of catnip and has been not only sampling, but diving in. She finally jumped up on the counter next to my computer and is now resting in her bread basket.

Things seem to be calm for the moment now. Amber is out. The cat is in and resting. My husband is taking a nap in his recliner. I’m at the computer for a few minutes before heading outside to the planters. Ahhhhhh! Can you hear the quiet?

I’m going to do as much weeding as I can this morning. Temperatures are down a bit today, so it’s a good morning to be outside. I particularly want to get the trio of planters running between our front yard and the top of our driveway under control.

We have a CHANCE for rain tomorrow, Sunday and Monday, so it’s added incentive to try to have some good sessions outside today.

I had a happy surprise when we went for my husband’s haircut yesterday. I had wood-burned a plaque for our hairdresser, Michael (“MICHAEL’S MIRACLES”), and gave it to him recently. When we entered the salon, it was hung just to the left of the entrance, where you stand when he’s giving you your next appointment. To say I was thrilled is a vast understatement. :0)

I’ve started a new piece in my art room.

I’m becoming a ‘tough old bird.’ Our insurance company denied part of a claim on blood tests I needed for my lack of thyroid. I played the game of talk to the company, then the biller, over and over. I finally paid the bill, notified my doctor, then filed an appeal with the insurance company. Hopefully, I won’t croak due to old age before the ‘decision,’ but I refuse to simply give up without a fight.

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

I really love the creativity shown here, plus the expertise putting it together. I think it’s wonderful.

Our ‘excitement’ for the day is a trip to get our mail and my husband’s haircut appointment. Be still, my beating heart. :0)

On the to-do list today is monitoring our irrigation system. I had my alarm set yesterday, but then went up to my art room. I didn’t think about it until yesterday evening, right before dark. SO – I have the alarm set NOW for the hair appointment, and when we get back I’ll set it AGAIN to go out and see what’s going on with the watering at 3pm.

The reason I messed up on monitoring the watering system was I was upstairs in my art room making this wood-burned piece that I listed on my Etsy site, HandmadeHavenByLinda yesterday afternoon.

I’ve gotten lax on doing my yoga stretches lately, too, so that’s on the list today as a priority, too.

I hope that your day is a good one.

This is a quilt! The talent and creativity of people on this planet completely blows my mind. I just LOVE this.

In my more ‘real’ world, I started a new wood-burned sign yesterday. The more wood burning I do, the more excited about it I get. I’m getting a bit better, with a bit better technique, better understanding of what I can do with the various tips, and I’m feeling a bit more free to ‘play’ even more. It’s a real quality of life thing for me when I find a new avenue that makes ideas simply spurt out of me. I’m having SUCH a good time!

This is my weight chart over the past week. Talk about a roller coaster! I did splurge when I got aggravated at my husband and was making turkey sandwiches at 9 pm for a very delayed dinner one night. I ate real bread, so that caused a spike. The other spikes were water retention, I think. Hopefully, the latest DOWNWARD line will continue. I really want there to be less of me.

My big chore for the day is going out at 3pm to monitor the irrigation units. I switched things recently to have each one run for 15 minutes, making sure they came on as scheduled. I just checked things, though, and everything is drying up. I’ll go out today and see what’s happening. Maybe we have another blowout somewhere.

I can’t believe school will start again August 12th here. We’ll have to start paying more attention to when we go for errands so that we don’t get stuck behind what my husband calls the “Mommy traffic.” It was so bad at one point where ambulances, fire trucks, and police would have found it impossible to get through in case of emergencies. I wrote the schools and they decided to change the start and end times of one of the two schools between us and town, freeing up the traffic a bit. We still avoid getting out during those times if we can, though.

Enjoy your hump day.

My husband asked ME to program the new tach he installed on the riding mower last night. (He wanted to be able to control the RPM on the engine and keep track of the hours of run time for the mower so we can perform maintenance at the right times.)

The fact that he STARTED installing the tach 20 minutes before we usually eat dinner didn’t seem to occur to him as a possible problem. I finally got the tach programmed and THEN he wanted ME to back the new mower into the shop. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable and would rather learn earlier in the day and going forward, rather than backward. He insisted, so I did the best I could.

I did go FORWARD, though, and then managed to figure out how to do the zero turn feature, so I was then able to drive it VERY jerkily into the shop.

Fixing turkey sandwiches for dinner at 9pm was super annoying.

SO – I’ll show you the present I ordered for him weeks ago. It got lost in the mail, so the person made us a second one and I received it yesterday –

It is now sitting on his radio on the shelf above his computer in the office.

Mother Nature really has her nose out of joint lately, doesn’t she – with earthquakes (I was reading they had had 5 in one week!) in California; DEBBY in Florida and now up the coast, bringing wind and torrential rain; and OUR weather which is forecast to be 102 today with a heat index of 108. Maybe we should all get together and see if we can ‘talk her down’ or arrange for some kind of calming meds –

I’m really grateful that I can complain from the comfort of a dry, air-conditioned house, totally spoiled as I sit and type at my computer. What a lucky person I am!

A quiet day is hoped-for today. I wish you the same. :0)

Our sweet dog, Amber, is shaking her ears this morning. We dosed her with the ear cleaner and then the medicine to be squirted way down in her ear and we’ll see what happens. I plan to dose her once each day and then, if that doesn’t stop the problem, we’ll face trying to get her in and out of the vet’s office without incident.

I put a turkey breast into the oven with the timer set for 90 minutes when we left yesterday to get groceries. The timer was beeping when I came back in the house. I don’t know how long it had been beeping, but the turkey breast seemed to be fine. I’ll slice a bunch of it today and we’ll enjoy turkey sandwiches for dinner tonight.

I got a notice in my email that a sign I ordered for my husband is due to be delivered today. It’s a funny one that I hope will make him laugh. If we get it, I’ll take a pic and share it with you.

Hope your Monday is a good one.

ruchnye-zveri.livejournal.com

Good Sunday morning!

It’s a pretty morning here in west central Arkansas today. It’s 84 degrees F. right now, and the heat index is NOT supposed to be ‘lethal’ today. HOORAY!

I’m getting a grocery list together and we didn’t get our mail yesterday, so we might go out in a few.

My husband came upstairs with our dog, Amber, and our cat, Jet, this morning to check on me, since I slept in this morning for the first time in what seems like forever and it scared him. He thought he might find that I had passed during the night. This is the first time for him, though I have experienced this scare several times over the past year.

I’m not sure what to DO about this. I asked him if he wanted me to start setting an alarm, but he said, ‘no.’ I’ve already hugged him about the scare. I’ve stressed over the past year or so that things that used to be easier are not anymore, and that with good communication, TOGETHER we can handle new fears we have and tackle difficult or confusing stuff.

Since I am still my normal, old, perverse self, I’ve done my normal stuff this morning and even mollified AMBER when she insisted that I check out the driveway detector going off over and over. I didn’t see anything when we went out, and suspect we have a family of deer playing around down at the bottom of the driveway. My husband is trying to take a mid morning nap, so I just checked one more time and have unplugged one of the detectors for awhile so he can get some rest.

I have an idea for a new wood-burned sign rattling around in my head, so I’ll try to get up to my art room this afternoon to get started on it.

Have a wonderful Sunday.
