Merry Christmas!
We just finished a ‘conference call’ on a secure program our son found so we can talk real time and see each other, like Face Time. This is special because there is either 12 or 13 hours difference where he is (it’s Christmas NIGHT where he is now).
We received some wonderful presents this year – time with our friends at Lunch Bunch and my friendships elsewhere (Carla and Nora) being at the forefront, but I have to say being able to talk to our son across the world and see him laugh and smile is the absolute best gift. Knowing that he is in a relatively safe part of the world, aware, and NOT traveling 24 hours one way going through dangerous parts of the world to see us gives my heart great ease. We will make plans to see each other when the world calms down.
I hope you are feeling well, and have a safe and happy day.
And the same to you and yours and a Happy New Year as well.

That is wonderful that you got to talk to your son and know he is safe !! Our oldest just moved to Virginia the week before Christmas so we also talked via video chat with him, his wife and five year old. Not the same as in person, but definately a wonderful thing that technology has brought us !!! I am old enough to remember that letters and very expensive phone calls were the only way to keep in touch not that long ago !!

Now I feel like the dinosaur I am because I may be one of the last living humans who loves to write and receive letters. I remember having to decide if we could afford the long-distance calls, timing the calls for the least expensive times, etc. I truly love being able to see our son’s face and smile as we talk real time. I also love the secure chat program he found where we can leave messages, pictures, etc. any time we want.
