I start each day determined to keep my mouth shut – and then life happens. Choose whatever excuse and it applies to me. I have AGAIN gained some poundage and AGAIN am getting it off.
When I was young and living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, we knew a lady who owned a nice small women’s clothing store in an outdoor mall. She was very overweight. She was a really nice woman who made you feel happy you had entered her store. (She actually HIRED me to play my guitar and sing there, trying to draw customers in.) Later, I heard that she had entered the hospital and had had her mouth wired shut (REALLY – I’m not kidding) in an effort to lose weight. It worked. I don’t remember how long she was there. The next time I saw her she was slim and looked really nice in a beautiful dress, heels, etc. It wasn’t a good thing, though, because she wasn’t healthy. I don’t remember the details. I just remember the shock when I read in the paper that she had died suddenly.
That’s the first time I remember being aware of weight, as such. At that point, I had no problems. It wasn’t until I finished getting pregnant and having babies that I had trouble losing the lard. Now I’m older than dirt, have lost 30 lbs. and have become the world’s best ‘yo-yo’ expert – losing and gaining the same 3 or 4 lbs.
So, I’m a bit disgusted with myself at this point. So far today, I’ve done well. I will eat my normal lunch with my husband and then the temptation for the day begins. :0)
I have always had an extremely healthy appetite. I wish I were the type of person who ‘forgets’ to eat. Maybe in my NEXT life…
It’s TOO cool and rainy here this morning! It’s 41 degrees F., gray, breezy, and rainy.
Cliff and his guys from Safe Elite Transformations 479-849-0520 are due here at 10:00 to re-install a board that trims the ceiling on the porch for us. When they made a new ceiling for us and painted the porch not too long ago, Cliff told me that there wasn’t much to attach the trim to. He’ll try to figure out a way to remedy that today. I can’t say enough about him and his group. If you need work, remodeling, building, or repair done in our area, you won’t find a better, more honest or hardworking company.
I will continue my repainting of the back of Wonder Wart-Hog, the mailbox decoration that was damaged when it was up on the mailbox for the first time. Someone really did a number on the back of it. It has been sprayed with ‘something’ that wouldn’t come off. I put a first coat on the green and white parts of the painting yesterday. When Cliff and his guys finish, if it’s not pouring, I’ll go out to the shop and see if I can get the second coat on. I’m hoping I can repair the damage. I’m disappointed that someone would do this. We have been putting the decorations up on the mailbox for years and years now without a problem. I hope we don’t have to stop.
I’ve just come in from working out in the shop. We brought in the Wonder Wart-Hog mailbox decoration yesterday, replacing it with Yosemite Sam.
I had noticed that the back of the Wart-Hog had something on it, so we just put it in the shop on my painting table until I had time to look at it. I still don’t know what it is, but it looks like someone sprayed it with something. I tried water, then Simple Green, then paint thinner, and then rubbed at it with a fine wool pad. Nothing worked.
This is the first time since we’ve been making and attaching these decorations to the mailbox that we’ve had any damage, so I guess we’re lucky. It’s just my luck that it’s one of my husband’s favorite comic book characters and the hardest one I’ve ever had to paint. I’m repainting the green and the white parts of the piece now. When I finish, we’ll hang him up on the hook my husband made for him.
Our weather has me a bit down today. It’s not really raining – I guess you could describe it as a really heavy cold mist or a really light cold rain. Kind of bleak. The temperature is up to 46. It really saps whatever energy I had and makes me want to take a nap. Ugh.
I’m always happy to begin November. The summer’s heat has finally let up. I actually grab a hoodie or a denim jacket in the mornings and evenings! We spent much of most afternoons with the front and back doors open to let a glorious breeze go through the house. Ahhhh!
I will start to try to get the yard cleaned up for the winter. We’ll turn off the irrigation system very soon. I’m watching the weather website for our area to see if there are any hard freezes in the coming 10 days. We’ll also turn on the electric heater in the well house and we’ll see if we can get the snow tires on the truck by ourselves this year.
My husband mowed yesterday. We may have to do that one more time before that season officially comes to an end. I’ll get more serious about weed whacking, particularly with the push-around weed whacker, since my husband will drain things that contain gasoline soon and store them for the winter. I feel better when the civilized area right around our house looks as though someone cares. :0)
I also welcome the month with yet another hunk firefighter from Australia and a sweet koala bear. I’ve just ordered my calendar for 2022. If you would like to help with their fundraising plus brighten your months for 2022, their url is https://www.australianfirefighterscalendar.com
This is the turkey that lives beside a tree at the top of our driveway. We made it several years ago.
I hope that YOUR ‘turkey day’ this month is full of love, family, friends and joy.
The trees are NOT colorful here in this part of Arkansas this year. We’ve lost a TON of leaves already. So I was amazed when I looked out the back door two nights ago just before sunset and saw all the COLOR all the way across our valley. I’ve never seen it this way before, like the trees were bursting with light. I tried to get some pics, but most of them didn’t come out right. These two were the best I could do at the time.
