My husband and I watched this movie last night. We were impressed.
It stars Kevin Costner, Ryan Reynolds, Gal Godot, Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Oldman and others. Though it’s pretty violent in spots, there are understandable reasons for it, rather than it being gratuitous. The acting was very good and I cared about what happened to the people in the story. The plot was a really creative, interesting idea – one that caused a lot of discussion afterwards.
The story summary is “In a last-ditch effort to stop a diabolical plot, a dead CIA operative’s memories, secrets, and skills are implanted into a death-row inmate in hopes that he will complete the operative’s mission.” – IMDb
My husband and I are in agreement that we’ll want to see this again, and will be buying the DVD for our collection.

Freckles
Freckles is gone. I have no clue why he died, but he was gone suddenly two days ago. I’ll miss him. Even though some would say, “He’s just a fish. Fish don’t have personalities,” they’re wrong. Freckles came immediately to the side of the bowl I was on whenever I came near. He would ‘play’ with my finger on the side of the glass, blowing bubbles at me. I’ll miss that.
We now have a new member of the family, Angie.
Angie is an angel fish, as different from Freckles as I could get without getting a fish that needed salt water. She’s skittish right now, startling when I come close to the bowl.
Please say “Hi” to Angie and tell her that she’s been adopted by some reasonably nice people who really love their fish. Maybe she’ll calm down and decide this isn’t so bad after all…

“Progress Report” is a misnomer in that I don’t have any changes to report today. I’m still at 46 lbs off and 22 inches off. I’m on DAY 8 of my new exercise regimen (2 miles with walking with annoying Leslie DVD and then either upper or lower body strength exercises.) It’s almost 5:00 now, and we spent most of the day going to Poteau and back with the auctions my husband wanted to attend, so I’ll have to scramble to get my exercises done today.
I CAN report that I feel “looser’ when I walk and can feel my meager stomach muscles working as I do – a new thing for me. I’m hopeful that in the coming weeks I can look at this and call it my new base of exercising and add more to it. For now, I’m gritting my teeth and making myself get in the living room and move my lard.
I also can report that with the walking we did today – all over two large industrial manufacturing businesses, my hips and knees did not hurt! Hooraaaaaay!
One day at a time. Slow and steady.

Kenco Plastics, Poteau, OK
My husband and I drove to Poteau, Oklahoma today to see the offerings of two companies, Kenco Plastics and Randco Tool & Mold, where everything was being auctioned. You could go see the offerings today and tomorrow and Friday bid on the offerings online.
It was sad to see these two large manufacturing companies go out of business. Rando had one client for whom they manufactured things: Kenco, and Kenco was going under. There is a chance that Kenco will be bought by someone else and reopened in the future. We met some employees of Kenco and the owner of Randco. The owner of Randco had been in business 29 years.
My husband will bid on a couple of lots, hoping that we’ll win the bidding and can go back to Poteau again to get our ‘new’ tools. Time will tell.
The companies going out of business is another sign that manufacturing is in trouble in the United States. We make less and less. Highly skilled people are out of work and are trying to make ends meet grabbing any jobs they can. Hopefully, we can turn this state of affairs around in the near future.
Meanwhile, even though our Garmin GPS tried to send us to Lower Slabovia today – rather than Poteau – we met some really nice people and saw some nice countryside. Wish us luck on winning our bids!

One of my really good friends here surprised and delighted me with a kindness awhile back. I thanked her profusely, telling her how much it meant to me. Her answer surprised me, and – frankly – changed the way I look at things.
She told me she looks for kind things she can do for others every day. It doesn’t have to be a big thing – smiling at a stranger, opening a door for someone, carrying a package to the car for someone, picking up something dropped and returning it, thanking someone sincerely when they don’t expect it….
The big thing to me is the different way you look at life when you have the idea of kindness in your heart. It’s a much more proactive way of looking at everything, and everyone you meet. It’s a small – but vital – difference that takes little or no time, just awareness and a willingness to see and do.
I’m so glad my friend opened my eyes to the small kindnesses I can do each day!

I’m half-finished with “DAY 5” of my new exercise regimen of
I’ve tried to do this and failed before. I’ve told myself that I’m busy enough working in the garden and the yard that I don’t need the formal exercises. I’ve proven to myself once again that the movements I do in the yard, no matter how strenuous DO NOT equal the DVD and the exercises with weights.
Once again I have worked up to two miles – rather than one – on the DVD, and I’m then doing the strength stuff later in the afternoon.
I’m counting the days, both in my head and on paper, because I know you have to do things over and over every day for a length of time before something becomes a habit. Right now I’m having to push myself hard enough to do this I can’t even FEATURE it becoming a habit or something I would miss, but stranger things have happened.
A year ago I really didn’t believe that I could lose 45 pounds and 22 inches and change to eating a low carb diet. I didn’t believe that I could actually make a difference on my quarterly blood tests, or not have to take cholesterol medication anymore. I didn’t believe that I might actually be able to completely avoid having knee or hip replacement. I didn’t believe that I could work in the yard for over half an hour a day.
It’s one year later and I’ve done some real good for myself. I’m about half way to my goal now. I’m hoping that I can make the above exercise my daily HABIT and that then I can build on that, getting stronger and healthier as I lose the lard.
I’ve printed this reminder and put it up on the side of my filing cabinet beside my computer. “No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying.”

This is so true in our home. One or both of us will be reading. Suddenly, one of us laughs, snorts, or sniffles. We look at each other, with one of saying the inevitable, “What?” The one who made the noise explains why the book made him/me laugh, cry, snort, etc., or we might even read a passage. And then we sink into our books again…
